Trust Issues With God

Everyone says that they trust and believe God. That goes nearly without exception with conservative religious people. There’s no need to elaborate on Atheists and Agnostics, they either hate God or ignore God out of unbelief. So the question really only applies to people who call themselves “believers.”

How do you trust and believe God?

This question relates back to the last post, “Cultural Spin Doctors” in that it is directly influenced by how we were taught to serve God. Every church of every denomination whether Christian or non-Christian denounces religion. And one accepted definition of religion is: “an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to an order of existence.” So the community where you grew up, the church your parents attended, and the cultural system you learned in school all play a part in determining your personal religion and its corresponding practical application in your life.

The entire western world has been transforming into an atheist culture with a godless world view for the past 150 years. We are transforming from Christian to Scientific Atheism. At first, it was very subtle. Doubt in the existence of God came about when the active power of the Holy Spirit became unknown. This was accomplished by the end of the first century when all of the apostles had died. This phrase: “The gifts died with the apostles” is widely believed by many Christian clergy today. However, since 1901 and the rise of the Pentecostal movement in America, the power of the Holy Spirit and the existence of God should no longer be a question. It should only be a question of acceptance according to your personal religion or church. Remember, God still allows you to have free will and you are not commanded to operate any gift or power that comes from God. You’re only commanded to obey him and that is the central part of the question in this post.

How do you trust and believe God?

So from the end of the first century until the Scientific Revolution, the western world simply took it for granted that God was real. Every now and then, a miraculous event would happen that could only be explained by God’s presence. But with the Renaissance in the 14th Century, art and literature became influenced by Classical philosophers of Greece and Rome. Old knowledge returned and the influence of science grew. Suddenly science began to explain miraculous events and the doubts that were lying under the surface of the culture rose up and became openly known. This is the Age of Enlightenment followed by the Age of Reason. The new religion of the age was Deism.

Deists first attempted to reconcile Christianity and God with reason and our American Revolution was one of its results. This age was characterized by the belief in man’s goodness. It became painfully apparent after the French Revolution that man is not inherently good. In fact it became really apparent that left alone, man can be supremely evil. The Age of Reason and Deism fell out of general public support. But the impact of the period is still felt to this day with the belief in many Christian churches that God created the universe, but has left the universe to “run itself” since creation. The Deist belief that God is remote and generally silent is still pervasive in our culture. The impact of science and reason has allowed openly carnal Christianity to prevail over spiritually centered Christianity. Even to the degree that Christian spirituality has been replaced by occult spirituality. This is why our question appears to be so difficult to answer.

How do you trust and believe God?

The answer is so simple, but at the same time, almost impossible to implement within a dogma centered religious framework. Dogma or doctrine defines the rules of fellowship within the churches we attend, however, they do NOT define our relationship with God. So the way you trust and believe God is Word and experience centered. First, it depends upon the Word of God you know and believe. And when you believe, you live and act according to its advice and practical principles. Not just the moral and character principles, but the spiritual principles. The principles that define how you listen and obey the spiritual revelation that God gives you by way of the Holy Spirit within you.

History and most of our church experiences have conditioned us to ignore Holy Spirit revelation. Instead, we are conditioned to believe our own logic and reason. We are conditioned and trained to be Carnal Christians and we are forced to wrestle with the answer to our question alone. This was not the original plan for the church. God originally wanted the church to help believers master the spiritual walk with Him. Instead, the church became a self-supporting arm of the government to preserve culture and rule over men. Without any exception, every Christian church is so centered upon preserving its doctrine, that encouraging and fostering a personal relationship with God Almighty is nothing more than an empty promise.

We are taught that to obey our minister is the same as to obey God. This places the minister on a hierarchy level above the congregation and many ministers even enforce structural level of authority that ends with the denominational structure in highest authority above the Word of God. Nothing comes from the congregation to the minister. Ministers are expected to be above reproach, above criticism, even above accountability to the congregation because accountability is from above, not from below. And this places the congregation at the lowest level of accountability. This form of authoritative power has been the standard of church life for 2000 years, but is not the standard that Jesus taught. It is the standard that the apostle Paul demonstrated when he refused to listen to warnings from his followers telling him: “Don’t go to Jerusalem.” We’ve been taught that Paul had a responsibility to account to his leadership in Jerusalem and finish his mission trip. But the lesson in Acts clearly shows that Paul was disobeying the revelation of the Holy Spirit by going to Jerusalem. His people suffered by losing their spiritual leader from that point on and the spiritual Christianity became the lost Christianity. The carnal, Jewish Christians were the leaders in Jerusalem Paul obeyed and they were the ones that had him arrested. Paul’s free ability to minister was taken away from him and he spent the rest of his life in Rome under house arrest. This is the reason why spiritual Christianity is such an unusual and nearly unknown phenomenon today. God wants us to learn to trust Him directly by way of the Holy Spirit.

If you believe someone, you will act on the advice they give you. This action is based upon the trust you have with them. It is the way of true friendship, apprenticeship, and parenting. This is the example of Jesus Christ throughout the Gospels. He was never an overlord with people, only against devil spirits. And this is also the first sign mentioned to know who believes.

Mark 16: 17, 18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Of the five signs mentioned, the first is performed by exorcists, the second is despised, the third and forth are ignored, and the fifth is ridiculed. Only the Roman Catholic church maintains an order of priests that perform exorcisms, the average believer is not expected to be able to do so. Speaking with new tongues is considered to be a gift given for specific purposes by God’s discretion, it is generally ignored by mainstream religion. Snake handling is done by some backwoods churches in West Virginia and nobody would dare to drink a deadly poison. The last is called “faith healing” and is usually explained away as a ruse or parlor trick. This is the testimony of the world and unfortunately, most of our churches today. However, Satanic gatherings make use of all of these signs to lead people away from Christ. If the Bible is telling the truth, then the average believer who walks with God should be able to demonstrate at least three of the these signs in their life.

If we do not believe that devils exist, then there is no need to cast any devils out. But Saul Alinsky dedicated “Rules for Radicals” to Lucifer, and Alice A. Bailey, one of the first proponents of the New Age, or New World Order started the Lucifer Trust. It was later changed to Lucis Trust and is the publishing arm of the United Nations. Karl Marx attended Satanic gatherings in college when he turned away from God and formulated the Communist/Socialist philosophy that is becoming normal for today’s college students to adopt. If all of these people acknowledge that Lucifer and Satan are a part of their lives and their books and philosophy’s are taking over our culture, then we need to wake up and realize that God is also living and real. You can’t have the lesser, evil power that Jesus defeated when he rose from the dead without also having the greater power that the world wants to deny.

These are the powers that are driving the culture of our world. We need to learn to examine our personal lives and our social lives from the spiritual perspective. Then we have to acknowledge that our culture is being lost to the wrong spiritual power if we worship God. Then every conservative religion should be concerned, not just Christians alone. But if you are Christian, then learning how to hear God, build a relationship with Him, and trusting His word given to you directly by the Holy Spirit should become a real goal in life. This is why I wrote “Rules for Radical Christians.” The rules outlined in the book will show you how to progressively build that personal relationship with God.

Your relationship with God will not be the same as my relationship with God. But we will be united by the same Holy Spirit. God will also teach you different things from me. But that’s because you are different from me and have different needs in your life. But the differences are only differences in detail. The Holy Spirit cannot contradict the written Word of God. If both come from the same source, (God), then they cannot contradict one another. Now this verse will have more meaning.

1 John 5: 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

The Word is the Son of God who is living in heaven at the right hand of God right now. It is also the written Word of God. And finally, it is the revelation Word of God given by the Holy Spirit. The Father is the source of all that we’ve been considering today so everything that we are trying to understand: God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Revelation from the Holy Spirit, and the Written Revelation are all one. The Living Word, the Written Word, and the Revelation Word all come from God and our endeavor is to learn to walk in God’s Word.
