When our children are born, they have their days and nights mixed up. It seems that a child in the mother’s womb sleeps during the day and gets active at night. Consequently, the parents get quite a few restless nights when the infant comes home for the first time. Even though it’s really hard on the parents to spend many restless nights caring for an infant who’s wide awake and active, parents aren’t mad at the infant at all. Our family has three boys and two girls. We understood this, so we were never mad, disappointed, or confused that our children needed to learn to sleep at night and stay awake during the day. It was a temporary inconvenience we endured as parents that is part of the learning process for every child. We love every one of them. Then and now. They all outgrew the day and night mix-up. They all matured.
Everyone begins life as a body and soul human being. We all start out as natural men and women. The only way to gain access to God’s throne and eternity is through Jesus Christ. It’s what the Bible says. If you follow any other book as your holy scripture, you may believe something else, but if you accept the Bible as your holy scripture, the sentence highlighted in bold should be a “No Brainer.” But what do you get that’s different when you become “born-again?” The Holy Spirit!
It is the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life that sets you apart. “You are sanctified” in religious terms. That is what makes you different from all other natural men and women in the world. No natural man or woman has a hint or spark of the Holy Spirit present in their lives. They know and understand everything by reason and logic alone. They learned everything by the “School of Hard Knocks.” If a natural person has any spiritual influence at all in their life, it is most likely, devilish. Access to God and His love is only possible when you have the Holy Spirit and access to the Holy Spirit is only possible through Jesus Christ. Look up John 3: 16 and Romans 10: 9, 10 if you don’t already know these verses. This is the way of salvation in order to receive the Holy Spirit.
But even though you are born-again and have the Holy Spirit, many Christians still haven’t matured beyond their carnal understanding. What do I mean by “carnal?” I mean their natural understanding by way of the body and soul, the way of the flesh. In order to gain spiritual understanding, we have to allow the Holy Spirit to guide us. That means to ask God questions, listen for His answer, and act upon that answer. The mature Christian can carry on an ongoing conversation with the Father continuously during the day because of the Holy Spirit. The immature Christian still reasons everything out by their own logic, experience, and training. The immature Christian is still “carnal” and needs to mature to the “spiritual.”
Since we all begin our spiritual walk as Carnal Christians and must mature through use of the Holy Spirit to become Spiritual Christians, being carnal is simply part of the maturing process. We still have our nights and days mixed up spiritually. Spiritual darkness is where we all begin. This is why I wrote “Rules for Radical Christians, a Practical Primer for Defeating Radical Liberals at Their Own Game.” A Radical Christian is a mature Christian that knows how to walk by the Holy Spirit. There is a logical process in the maturing and the process is outlined in the book. But just as a child progresses through certain phases as they grow from infant to adult, the Christian also progresses through certain phases as they grow from Carnal Christianity to Spiritual Christianity.
If you can’t recognize God’s voice, you must live by the logic of the flesh, “carnal.” If you don’t know the Written Word of God, you must live by your education, “carnal.” If you hear God’s voice, “spiritual” but reject it because of your logic and education, you are still walking by the flesh, “carnal.” The Radical Christian knows both the Written Word of God and God’s voice. Then, through obedience to God’s voice, they learn how to understand the Written Word of God. Because the Revelation of God, “spiritual” always confirms or is confirmed by the Written Word of God, “spiritual.” So the Radical Christian is really a spiritually mature Christian. One who has finally outgrown Carnal Christianity. It is the spiritual infant phase in the process. Why should we be mad, hurt, or confused by spiritual infants when we know we all start out the same way and they simply need love and mature examples to grow out of infancy? Being a Carnal Christian is not a bad thing, we all start there, it is simply part of the spiritual growing process.
